What a day, we covered the alphabet from A to L, the Alamo in the afternoon and Luckenbach in the evening. Very nostolgic, for Trish it was, the stories about the women and children who were the only survivors, released by Santa Anna, for Paul, of course, it was Davy Crocket and Jim Bowie, even a child in Canada heard of them in the 1950's, what an interesting old site. There was a Lemuel Crawford among the 189 men who died after the 13 day battle with Santa Anna. Any surviving men were burned to death! Parking for the Alamo was $10.00, as we drove away, we saw it for 7.00, then 5.00. Just like gas, every time we gas up, we drive half a mile and it's 10 cents a gallon cheaper! Then we headed north, away from the big city traffic, we ended up in Luckenbach, Texas, Pop:3 , we met two of them, but there was a crowd, all walking around with a beer in their hand, tourists like us. You would not believe this place, a large open air dance hall, with a band warming up, it wasn't Waylon, or Willie and the boys, Waylon is dead, and they don't have Willie there anymore, ever, because they just can't handle the crowds, he does show up sometimes when his daughter is the entertainment and walks around with a beer. You could never describe this place to anyone, you have to see it to believe it, beer two dollars, you can eat at the feed lot, roosters and chickens shitting on you from the trees, it's like having a beer party out behind the barn, just a few shacks, and we mean shacks, a little stream running through and a cowboy on a Texas longhorn steer with a saddle, riding around. Primitive, but pricey, when it comes to souveniers! They loved Trish's hat, pink with partridge feather fanning on the front, they wanted to know if Trish shot that, she said, no Paul did! We had a long chat in Luckenbach with a Viet Nam Vet, two purple hearts, he was a demolitions expert, the best story was him being called to the MASH tent to remove a live 4 guage shell from a soldiers's back, He had to insert a straw past the shell to remove any air that might cause suction, the suction could set off the shell. He threw it outside the tent later and it exploded! As we registered at the KOA the sheriff was escorting an older couple from the park. They had a few too many and were shooting at the animals on an exotic animal farm behind the campground. Then the lady told us where the bunker was if we get a Tornado warning in the morning. We are not sleeping in tomorrow!
