Back to Bubba's BBQ in Marquez, Texas, we had no intention of necessarily returning there, but it seems to be a crossroads. They were open this time, we didn't camp but we ate, delicious!
It really isn't called Bubba's, it's named Country Comfort RV Park and BBQ, but Bubba is the owner's father and we liked that name, as we said before, Bubba doesn't do much except hang around there, so he says, but we found out, he did shoot the Juke Box one time! We bought t-shirts, they gave us hats, and Paul gave them a large picture of a N.S. Whitetail deer to hang under their Texas shaped clock. The son-in-law and Bubba want to come to Canada deerhunting, I told him no handguns! "Seat belt, Seat belt, Seat belt!" If Trish says that one more time, she is going to be hitchhiking back to Nova Scotia!
We have seen hawks from the time we entered Maine and in every state, lots of them, Trish has taken them on as a good omen. Also Kathy, lots of butterflies, Sonny is with us! Talk about destiny, we headed for Chester ,Texas, stopped in a town and asked about campgrounds, they said none going this way, we said we are going anyway, we had the new Chester RV Park all to ourselves! We had a beer with the owners, Bob & Benny , we told them all about Chester ,N.S. Bob told us we had to visit Jones Country, we took photos of the house George Jones lost to the IRS, also his entertainment complex across the road. We chatted with the guy turning it into a RV Park. Two weeks travelling in Texas, and tonight we lay our heads down in Leesville, Louisiana! We stopped at the Legion in Leesville, you would not believe the building or the hospitality, they just built a 3 million dollar complex, their bingo hall alone was twice the size of both floors back home, and every chair was filled that evening. The offices and ladies auxillary bldg. next door looked like it should be the national HQ for the American legion, they had a shuffleboard twice as long as any I have ever seen! We showed our cards, gave them #44 ribbons and ordered two Bud Light, talk about cheap, we hit happy hour and because a train went by at the same time, we got a dollar off each beer, they have a rule, each time a train blows outside the building, it's fifty cents off your beer, even the cash register is set up to handle this.
Jim Williams is the Allan Mosher of Leesville, he couldn't do enough for us! After the first beer, he drove Paul to find a campsite, while Trish wished for trains to go by! Lucy, originally from California and her husband Andy from Scotland, were very friendly, Paul was having starter trouble and Andy was out crawling under the truck to check it out! Lucy gave Trish a dozen farm eggs and then Don, added sausage from a hog he had just slaughtered. We met Paul the Post Commander, seems the eggs came via his farm! We bought a Post 145 license plate and Andy gave Trish a Whoo, Whoo shirt, depicting the tracks outside the Legion door! Rene and Robin the bartenders were great, they sure get busy when a train goes by! We ended the day eating at SonicBurger, from the '50s, they have carhops, but they walk, unlike Trish who did it on roller skates at the White Spot in Victoria, B.C. I won't say what year! Apoligies to Andy, we will eat crawfish before we leave the state, Trish kept the drawing showing us how to eat them!

  1. Can they get that train to come up here?? What a cool thing to do, must be expensive for them though if the locals know the times it goes by. Keep on truckin' safely...Jo
